Fantasy Vector Artwork: Exploring an Alien Planet
This speed art video is a fantasy scene about a traveller exploring the frontier of a habitable alien planet in the far future, camping and taking in the wild landscape. It was also a personal challenge: can a Bob Ross style painting be made in vector, using Adobe Illustrator?
The artwork
A figure with a backpack stands on the shore of a still lake, looking out across water that mirrors the scene. Sharp snow-capped peaks rise behind rolling green foothills, with dark pine trees framing both sides. The sky glows from warm yellow near the horizon to soft violet above, and light rays cut through the haze. The colours are rich and layered, closer to a painting than to typical flat vector art.
What to look for
Depth comes from stacking many tonal layers: the far mountains are pale and cool, the foothills warmer, and the foreground trees darkest. The reflection is the landscape softened and flipped. This style also works for posters, wall art and animation backgrounds.
This is a speed art video, not a step-by-step tutorial. It is meant to show the process and give you ideas. For guided lessons, see the step-by-step tutorials linked below.
