Four Easy Backgrounds with Distort Effects
This speed art video shows four background designs made in Adobe Illustrator using the Distort & Transform effects on simple shapes. They are quick to make and useful as cover, poster and social media backgrounds.
The artwork
The four designs are variations on organic, blobby shapes and repeated forms: one is a scatter of soft pastel shapes in coral, mustard, blue and pink on a neutral ground, another a floral cluster in muted colours, and the others play with repeated distorted forms. Each design uses a small palette so the shapes stay readable.
What to look for
Every design starts from a plain shape and gets its character from an effect such as Roughen, Pucker & Bloat, Zig Zag or Transform with copies. Because these are live effects, changing one slider changes the whole background, so it is worth pausing the video where the effect dialog appears and trying the settings yourself.
This is a speed art video, not a step-by-step tutorial. It is meant to show the process and give you ideas. For guided lessons, see the step-by-step tutorials linked below.
