Speed Painting a Realistic Eye
This speed painting shows a realistic human eye being built up in Adobe Photoshop with basic brushes, from a line sketch to a finished, detailed eye. It is a process video with no voiceover.
The artwork
The video moves from a simple line drawing of an eye on the left to a finished painting on the right: a detailed brown iris with fine radial lines and a bright reflection, soft eyelashes, an eyebrow and realistic skin around it. The shading gives the eye a wet, three-dimensional look.
What to look for
Watch the order of work: the shapes and mid-tones first, then the iris detail, then the highlights and the catchlight last. The reflection in the eye is what makes it look alive. An eye is a great subject for practising realistic painting because it is small but full of shading.
This is a speed art video, not a step-by-step tutorial. It shows the process to inspire and give ideas. For guided lessons, see the step-by-step tutorials linked below.
